Meet Val

Aloha, hola, bonjour, guten tag, nǐn hǎo, hey there!

Wherever you're from and whatever language you speak, I hope we can agree on one thing: travel is awesome. If you'd like to learn a little bit more about me, keep on reading!

I'm Val. This blog is about where life has taken me and where I'm going.

Rockin' my look for a 90s party I hosted!

I grew up in a very small town in upstate NY town between the Vermont and Quebec border. I got my first taste of international travel when my high school Spanish class traveled to Madrid and Granada Spain in 2007. I was hooked and knew then that I needed to travel more. I yearned to explore the world for myself and experience what was outside of the small bubble I'd merely existed in for the longest time. Travel for me has always been about expanding my worldview and getting to understand how other cultures operate.

To date, I've visited  twenty-one countries. I've been fortunate enough to visit many of the places I've been dreaming about for years, but I know I still have so much left to explore. Check out some of my upcoming trips and my travel bucket list here!

When I'm not traveling, my other passions in life include eating ALL the spicy food (chicken tikka masala and chili are my favorites), going to concerts and hangin' with this little bud:

My snuggle buggle (aka Zoe)
I've even traveled internationally to go to concerts, which was amazing as I got to combine two of my greatest passions in life. Below is a snippet from when I flew to Belgium to go see my absolute favorite band in the world, Simple Plan! Here they are playing Boom! at Trix in Antwerp.

A couple of fun tidbits about me:
1) I played the clarinet all through high school but I actually can't remember much of it now though!
2) I have my BA in Communications Studies because I originally wanted to write for a music magazine
3) I flat out hate pasta (yes this includes macaroni and cheese)
4) I'm obsessed with Gilmore Girls and can quote just about every single episode (Copper Boom!)
5) I have forgotten how to ride a bike and the myth that you can't forget is just not true

I started this blog because I wanted to create a space.  A space where I can share all of the knowledge about the places I've experienced with people just like me! I'd love nothing more than to create a 'lil community where we can all learn from and inspire each other to get out there and see more of the world. One of my favorite parts about traveling is that the places you go become a part of you; ultimately they become home. You will inevitably leave pieces of yourself in these places and they will, in turn, leave their mark on you too. The great thing about a home is that even though its physical location may change over time, you can always visit.

You will never be completely at home again, because part of your heart will always be elsewhere. That is the price you pay for the richness of loving and knowing people in more than one place. -Unknown

That's all I got for now folks. Hope you enjoyed getting to learn a bit more about me and that you'll stick around to hear about more of my adventures! I'd also love to hear from you. Tell me where you've been, where you're dying to go and what your favorite thing about travel is in the comments below!

PS- I'd like to give a personal shout out to one of my best friends Paida for finally giving me the push I needed in starting this blog! You all should check out her blog and give her some love!
